Self Build Conservatories are popular home improvement projects for the competant DIYer for a whole host of reasons. A good conservatory will add more than its cost to the value of your home, usually requires no planning permission and gives you some extra living space in which to enjoy the great outdoors without being subject to the vagaries of the British climate.

Whether you are building a new conservatory or replacing an existing one, anyone who has some experience of DIY would be well advised to consider erecting it themselves. We are more than happy to chat with you about self-build conservatories supplied by DGA Frames and supply and deliver a wide range of kits for you to install.

1. Plan out your conservatory
Mainly this comes down to size, how much room you have to build in compared to how much you want to give over to a new conservatory. Obviously you also have to consider the time and budget that you have before you plan something to rival the Eden Project.

You can also consider the orientation of your home. If you are lucky enough to have a south facing garden, you will have a conservatory which gets the the full force of the sun, all day throughout the summer, which is something you will need to consider.

2. Discuss your requirements with us
We will discuss with you what your requirements and tastes are and supply you with the ideal conservatory for you.

3 Do check building regulations and planning guidance
Conservatories usually come under permitted developments and you don't need planning permission for them. However you do need to check before you start or you will end up having to take it down again. There are situations in which you would need planning permission and permitted development rules do clearly define the criteria of what is and is not allowed.

4 Prepare the ground and lay the foundation
This is vital and needs to be done correctly. Obviously the foundations for a conservatory don't need to be as deep as for a house but it does need to properly support the conservatory. Even if you feel confident to erect the rest of the conservatory, you may be better off getting a professional to build the foundations.

5 Conservatory
The next step is obviously adding the subfloor, dwarf walls (if included in the design) and then the frames of the windows and doors. Our frames are all built to be straightforward to fit. During this time is when you want to knock through into the house if you need to build a new doorway. It is typical to expand an existing opening for a window into a doorway into your conservatory.

6 Interior, Heating and Air Conditioning
A common option for many conservatories is underfloor heating, which is perfect for many conservatories, obviously this would be the ideal time to install it. After that you fit the floor and the interior face of any dwarf walls.

If you are planning on including electrical power, heating or air conditioning systems in your new conservatory, you would be wise to consider hiring a professional, especially if it involves expanding on your household plumbing.
